Foleygate: Where is the FBI looking in congressional sex scandal
Foleygate: Where is the FBI looking in congressional sex scandal

(CHICAGO)(OCTOBER 4, 2006)  The Department of Justice indicated late Wednesday that it was broadening its criminal probe in the Mark Foley "Foleygate" sex crimes investigation. Where are they going? Where are they looking? As usual, ContrarianCommentary.com will look where other media are not, and provide exclusive insight into the criminal investigation. [Updated details will also be available at a Chicago news conference Thursday afternoon.]

The FBI is looking for electronic records at the U. S. House of Representatives. That's the obvious place to look, and they are.

But an experienced criminal investigator would step back and say, "What's missing?" (Please note, this is not a TV-style "CSI.") "What am I missing? Where should I be looking? Why was this man calm in the morning (Statement of Rep. Peter King) and then he resigned in the afternoon? What was he really afraid of?"

It was not the pageboy scandal potential that Foley feared and caused him to resign.

The Washington Post today confirmed claims made by ContrarianCommentary.com, namely that Foley had a long history of sexual activism. The Post stated, "In 1995, male House pages were warned to steer clear of a freshman Republican from Florida…"

The House of Representatives is a small city, also perhaps similar to a large high school. It's hard to keep a secret, especially a sex secret, especially a secret that involves conduct in the corridors. We now know that Foley was a predator 11 years ago (WP).

But Foley did not resign because of his contacts with pages. There is more to "Foleygate." Much more to come.

The expanded investigative approach is clear, virtually apodictic: "Let's hit the neighborhood. It is inevitable that a predator at work is also preying at home." That's where experienced prosecutors have sent the FBI case agents. In 11 years of predatory behavior, Foley hit on the locals, because they had no status, they could be gently bribed, subtly influenced and be induced to stay quiet about the situation. The real victim or victims will not be a page, though pages will figure in the prosecution. The real victims will be local underage boys.

Foley may have even been in anonymous contact with NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association) for help in trolling for local contacts.

The FBI investigation is searching Foley's neighborhood, checking for leads to children who may have been in the former congressman's house. They are looking for the one boy who will make the criminal case. One boy is all it will take. He is out there, possibly even reading this column on Google News.

David Roth, Foley's West Palm Beach attorney, said Tuesday that Foley has not had sexual "contact" with a minor. As Bill Clinton would say, it all depends on what your definition of "contact" is. The use of the term "contact" appears to have been carefully chosen.

The FBI is searching for a local boy, someone in the Washington, DC area, possibly the suburbs, that went to Foley's house and did have "contact" with Marky Mark. They will find that boy and, when they do, all hell will break loose. The boy may have been homosexual, or thought he was; but he was underage and a federal or state crime was committed.

The hydraulic pressure to prosecute in this case is overwhelming. The prosecutorial and investigative resources being devoted to Foleygate are gargantuan.

Foley could be telling the truth about the pages. That is, maybe he did not have "contact" with one of the pages. But he had contact with someone, and that someone is out there, being sought by the FBI.

Save this column and reread it when the criminal case is filed.
