(San Diego)(September 18, 2006) Chicago-based ContrarianCommentary.com Executive Editor Andy Martin served as a bureau chief in Baghdad during much of 2003. The Internet journalist coined the term "Emerald City" to describe the Coalition Provisional Authority's "Green Zone" in Baghdad. Martin was Paul Bremer's first and fiercest opponent and incurred the wrath of President Bush because of Andy's uncompromising reports from Iraq.
Martin was widely known throughout Baghdad from his perch off Abu Nuwas Street. "I started using the term 'Emerald City' in restaurants and bistros with other journalists, contractors and 'refugees' from the Green Zone," Martin states. "And the term began to stick, and then stuck. I am quite pleased, or as my sources in Britain would say, 'chuffed,' that my derogatory characterization still sticks to Paul Bremer and his asinine and incompetent circus, and has become the title of a new book by Rajiv Chandrasekaran.
Martin is in San Diego from September 18-20; the
controversial Internet news and information source will be edited in Southern California during that period. ContrarianCommentary.com covers the world, and editors are regularly based in California. Some of Martin's columns may also be read at politicalgateway.com.
Martin may be reached through CC.C's nationwide number (866) 706-2639 or by cell at (917) 664-9329.
